The cartoon is not meant to focus on the color of skin, but on the fact that the volleyball team has not had much success in the past.

Image has everything to do with with the lack of recent success the volleyball team has had, not what color the coaches skin is.

This is a familiar depiction of an old Jim Crow caricature. It's a racist mockery of African-Americans in general and completely out of line.
