Campus Recreation's first annual intramural flag football combine has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 4. The combine was canceled due to Tuesday's continuous rainfall.

Jason Spivey, assistant director of intramural sports, is optimistic that the cancellation will ultimately benefit the program, as students have another week to prepare and get involved.

"We were really torn about rescheduling the event, just because we've had a lot of questions and a lot of interest in the event," Spivey said. "It's just one of those things where we either had to risk it with the weather or reschedule, using our efforts to get the word out again."

The event will feature a forty yard dash, shuttle runs, a quarterback target challenge and an obstacle course. There will also be an activity specifically tailored to flag football, called the flag pole shoot, in which players run while attempting to pull flags. Awards will be given for each event to the top male and female athlete, as well as to the overall male and female champion.

On Sept. 4, intramural scrimmages will be taking place on Miller Fields, and Spivey hopes this will attract even more participants.

"We're already going to have an audience for the scrimmage games, so I'm excited. I think it will be huge."

The staff at Campus Rec is expecting at least 100 to 150 participants, with even more coming out due to the new date.
