For the second time in three years, NC State men’s club hockey is heading to North Dakota to compete in the Division 2 National Championship as the No. 8 seed.
While COVID-19 has disrupted students academically with the establishment of all-online classes this 2020 fall semester, it has also impacted their extracurriculars. NC State’s large and successful club sports community has been given strict guidelines by the University. Teams are required to inform the University of all on-campus events for screening purposes and the University encourages teams to hold all recurring events virtually.
The NC State men’s club ice hockey team lost 3-2 in a closely contested match against Wake Forest University Sat. 29, in the second day of the ACHA Men’s D2 Regionals in Lawrenceville, New Jersey to bring its season to a close.
The NC State Overwatch team traveled down the road to Chapel Hill for North Carolina’s gamefest last Saturday, Feb. 29, beating the Tar Heels 3-1 in a best-of-five series.
An ever-underrated aspect of NC State sports is the vast selection of club sports available to students. Most club sports dedicate a large chunk of the time teaching beginners how to engage in the sport, especially if they have not had much exposure before. The Boxing Club at NC State is no different, and operates as a class, which teaches students and fighters the fundamentals of boxing, in order to get their feet in the door.
The women’s club rugby team will only play in a handful of 15s matches this season after seeing a spurt of growth in the fall season. The team was originally slated to play UNC-Chapel Hill on Feb. 7, but the game was canceled and not rescheduled.
After a successful fall season, Alpha Ultimate is prepared for its more important spring season, where it has a chance to climb its way up the College Men’s USAU Rankings and travel to nationals via a series of big tournaments.
Over the weekend, the NC State women’s hockey club played in its first official game, falling to the George Washington Colonials 5-3.
The NC State men’s club hockey team secured its second straight Admiral’s Cup as the Icepack won the ACCHL championship with a 5-4 victory over Wake Forest Sunday afternoon.
