On Jan. 20, the NC State Hockey club, known as the Icepack, will play against North Carolina at PNC Arena. The first game against the Tar Heels had a good turnout, but fan support for the Icepack should be much bigger.

Part two of the three-part series counting down the top 19 NC State sports moments of 2019 includes postseason runs from NC State Icepack, softball, women’s soccer and women’s tennis; a big draft day for some former Pack football players; and a recent ranked win for women’s basketball. 

In one of its final home games of the first semester, the NC State Icepack showed the fans its long-awaited alternate third jersey in action, a red primary with off-white accents, in a 5-1 win over another former Big Four team, Wake Forest, Nov. 15.

The NC State club flag football team took two teams to the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association Southeast Regional in Wilmington, and both teams impressed. Team Wolf and Team Pack both advanced out of pool play and into bracket play, where they each lost sooner than they’d have hoped.

In a highlight-filled night against long-time rival UNC-Chapel Hill, the NC State Icepack held on against a Tar Heel counter-surge to secure its third straight Governor’s Cup Monday, Nov. 25 in an 8-6 win at PNC Arena.

The NC State men’s club basketball team competed in an eight-team tournament over the weekend in Carmichael Gym which NC State’s Team Pack won in thrilling fashion. This tournament came after a dominant performance the week before by the team which included an impressive win over Winston-Salem State.
