The Chapel Hill police are releasing two photos of a suspect in the murder of Eve Carson investigation that were taken at an ATM the night of the shooting. Police chief Brian Curran held a press conference Saturday morning to announce the release of the photos. He said the photos identify a black male in his late teens or early 20s.
University tests alarm system
First test intented to ensure functionality not effectiveness
Westminster bells sounded around campus at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. But the sound wasn't coming from the Bell Tower. The first test of the WolfAlert Audible Warning System siren and alarm took place Thursday, which the vendor carried out through Campus Police, and the University plans to test the system every first Monday of each month at noon, according to David Rainer, associate vice chancellor of environmental and health and public safety.
Spanish courses move online with new components
Professors use technology to help learning a language online easier
Beginning this May, students will be able to take the FLS 201-601 Business Spanish course online, along with the currently offered FLS 101 and FLS 102 online courses. The online courses will also have several new components. Dudley Marchi, associate department head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, said that while the FLS 201-601 Business Spanish online course is restricted to College of Management students, the FLS 101 and FLS 102 online classes fulfill the same foreign language requirements as on-campus Spanish classes.
Police say report of ASU gunman was false
Last updated Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Boone Police Department has confirmed that Monday's report of a gunman on the campus of Appalachian State University was false. Boone Police Investigators interviewed the person who originally reported the sighting, and the person admitted the story was fabricated, according to the university's Web site.
Elections Commission discusses campaign violations
Mills receives two warnings and a fine, Alston receives a warning notification
The Elections Commission held hearings Thursday regarding complaints against Student Body President Bobby Mills and Student Senate President pro tempore Mike Alston. According to Chair Andrew Tucker, the commission gave Mills, a junior in political science, two warnings and a $20 fine, and Alston a warning notification.
Cricket tournament to draw array of teams
Annual event begins this weekend at N.C. State
The club cricket team will be hosting the annual Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament, which the team is calling "The Wolfpack Championship," on Lee Field this Saturday and Sunday. The event, which runs each day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., will consist of nine teams primarily from the Mid-Atlantic Cricket Conference.
Dining halls quit using trays
Facilities has measured water usage in dining halls, and the efforts have lessened water usage
University Dining has stopped using trays in dining halls, and according to Wade Fulghum, administrative officer of Utilities and Engineering Services, there has already been evidence that it has reduced water use. While Facilities has yet to compile all the data on the dining halls' water use, "for the water use we have measured [in Fountain Dining Hall], it's a downward trend," Fulghum said.
