First haunted hike gears up for fun, costumes

Local businesses, student organizers work to make event historic

Thirteen businesses on Hillsborough Street are coming together for the first ever Haunted Hillsborough Hike, starting at Sadlack's Heroes at 8 p.m. and ending at East Village Bar & Grill around 2 a.m. The Halloween Hike was created by Alan Lovette, owner of Melvin's Hamburgers, and Matthew Potter, a senior in political science.

Lock Whiteside has all platform goals to accomplish with 5 weeks left in fall semester

This is his second term. He ran for re-election with specific platform goals in mind. Some, he said he's already working on but has not yet accomplished. Others, he still hasn't begun to cross off his list. Student Chief Justice Lock Whiteside, a first-year graduate student in social studies education, had three main goals listed on his platform: raising the burden of proof for students accused of violations; creating a year-long series of alcohol awareness programs; and getting the Judicial Board out into classrooms and organizations with Academic Integrity Programs.

Hikers, businesses plan for security similar to previous excursions

Campus Police are treating the Halloween activities on Hillsborough Street tonight as it would any other night, despite the advent of the Haunted Hillsborough Hike this year, Capt. Jon Barnwell said. "It's typically treated like a normal evening," Barnwell said.
